Matheran - Two Day Trek
Matheran (2624 ft) is the nearest hill station to Mumbai and a paradise for
hikers, particularly in the monsoon. It has many routes and one can always spend
an enjoyable hiking day. Matheran - means Jungle Top or Wooded Head, which is
just what it is, an undulating hilltop cloaked in shady trees. Matheran is free
of all forms of motor vehicles. It is ringed by many km of walking tracks, which
leads to lookouts that drop sheer to the plains. Matheran is an ideal camping
ground and offers opportunities to be one with nature than most other
destination.
Day 1
Depart from Mumbai CST at 8:33am by local train. Arrive at Bhivpuri after 2
hrs by 10:30am. After refreshment, hit the trail to Matheran, via Garbet
plateau, which passes through villages and forests. Lunch will be organised on
the way. The trek is of about 13 kms. With the company of newly found friends
coming from different background there will be enough topics to keep the
conversation interesting. For those who like solitude and want to enjoy nature
no one will stop you from having your freedom. Nature and climate is at its best
during monsoon treks – the greenery, fresh air and as you go higher the mist
filled clouds. With enough breaks for refreshing our energies we will reach
Matheran by 5:00pm. At Matheran we will check in the hotel and have a refreshing
hot water bath. Evening will be for relaxing and some group games. Early to bed
for recharging the batteries.
Day 2
Next morning after breakfast we visit a few points like Echo Point, Charlotte
Lake, The Mall etc. After lunch around 2.30 p.m. walk down to Dasturi and from
they’re by taxi to Neral. From Neral board the local train around 4.33 p.m. for
Mumbai CST. Arrive Mumbai CST around 6.30 p.m. We reach home early enough to be
fresh to begin our routine the next day. We will of course keep on reminding you
about our various programmes through our website.
